Opercula (the “trapdoor” of certain snails) are grown in incremental layers as the snail matures, much like tree rings. Each new layer of material forms over the older ones, so natural “growth lines” or seams become visible. These lines can appear as cracks or grooves but are simply the boundaries where one growth phase ended and the next began. Found on beaches across the pacific. no lives shells are used.
